The project, Sum, formed the culminating exhibition for my emerging artist residency at Mudflat Art Studios. It started with the question, “how can our material inclinations align to build a cohesive object?” With some artists, the conversation meandered and grew with interplay and experimentation, and with others it was short and certain. Sum, and the project behind it are inspired entirely by the interactions, proximity, and diversity of clay artists that Mudflat hosts each day.
